WATCH NOWThe artwork is centred around the seven seasons on the Larrakia calendar. Each season represented by a plant or animal.
Balnba is the start of the wet season. It is a good time for finding shellfish in and around the mangroves as they are uncovered by rain.
Dalay sees the monsoon start kicking in. Crocs nest and lay eggs throughout the monsoon.
Knock ’em down storms end the wet season and then things start cooling down. This sees dragonflies start to come out. It is heading into the dry season.
Damilba is the Larrakia word for barramundi. This time of year the barra have made their way out towards sea from the floodplains.
Dinidjangama is heavy dew time. This is the cold time of year. Floodplains are starting to dry up and the water lilies are in bloom.
Gurulwa guligi means big wind time – it’s magpie goose hunting season around this time (September).
Dalirrgang is the build up. As the seas start heating up – box jellyfish move closer to shore. This time of year I’d be more inclined to watch for them at the beach over crocs as the jellyfish are everywhere.
