“HE just could not be more ready to be a senior coach.”

CEO Cain Liddle is certain the Blues have found their man in David Teague.

The now-former interim coach was announced as Carlton’s newest Senior Coach on Thursday morning, having led the Blues to five wins from their last nine games.

In the wake of the newest coaching appointment, Liddle reflected on the process of elevating Teague to the top job.

“We profiled our entire list and all of our coaches. We then profiled David and he lined up exactly to where our group was at,” Liddle said.

“We wanted a coach that could come in, hit the ground running and was perfect for where the group were at right now.

“The profiling work we’ve undertaken has confirmed for us that ‘Teaguey’ is absolutely perfect for where our group is at.”

Teague steps into the role after an impressive two months as interim coach, bringing an attacking flair and winning feeling to Ikon Park.

Liddle confirmed that it was this performance - combined with over 10 years of coaching experience - that earned Teague the top job.

“‘Teaguey’ has had 10-12 years of experience in the system,” he said.

“If you go back and look at and assess the recent success in coaches, and even in the longer term success in coaches, a lot of them have had really good groundings in really good programs.”

Teague’s coaching journey began as playing-coach at the Northern Bullants, where he would continue as senior coach for two years after retiring from the field.

He then spent time at West Coast and St Kilda in assistant roles, followed by a three-year tenure as a forwards assistant coach at Adelaide, culminating in its 2017 premiership challenge.

“We just got to the end and thought, categorically, we have the right person here,” Liddle said.
