LUCY McEvoy will run out in Navy Blue for another two seasons as she re-signs with the Carlton Football Club.

McEvoy is looking forward to season seven and is excited about the direction of the Game Changers.

“I am looking forward to what we can do. I have faith in ‘Harf’ and in our coaching staff," McEvoy said.

"I think the direction they want us to head in is the right direction and I back that fully – that is the reason why I signed on."

On the AFLW Senior Coach, McEvoy said Harford continually gets the balance right when approaching the group and she looks forward to learning more from him leading into her fourth season at the elite level.

“His ideas are great and he knows us really well – I look forward to learning from him some more,” she said.

“I think the best thing is he knows when to take it seriously and when to have fun: the balance is really important.

“Particularly as us [female athletes] will come from work and that sort of stuff, he knows when to lighten the mood and then knows how to work hard and set us straight."

After three years as a Game Changer, McEvoy is looking forward to learning from leaders within the group while stepping up as a leader herself.

“Looking at the leadership group as a whole, 'Kez’ [Harrington] obviously stands out, she is an incredible leader and an incredible person,” she said.

“I have always looked up to her and love learning from her, just getting to see what she does at training and learning from her is great for my development."

Looking ahead to season seven, McEvoy’s expectations which she has set for herself are consistency, learning from her teammates and having a bigger impact on the game.

“Personally, I think trying to be consistent, trying to solidify a spot [wherever that may be] would be really good,” she said.

“Learning from the girls that have played in that position for quite some time and trying to be more consistent and have a bigger impact.”

With the loss of players taking its toll on all AFLW clubs due to expansion, McEvoy believes that while nothing can be done, all that is left to do is continuing to work hard, train hard and build strong relationships to strengthen the group going into season seven.

McEvoy’s re-signing comes after the CBA result was announced, which included a substantial pay rise of an average 94 per cent across all four payment tiers, and the announcement of season seven of the AFLW commencing in the last weekend of August.

That begins with the return of pre-season training from Tuesday night.

“It was a great outcome in the end for everyone involved: we couldn’t be happier,” she said.

“It was pretty much set in stone that we were starting in August. The girls have been working hard, getting in the gym, and running – the short turnaround will be good for us.

“Obviously we didn’t play finals last year and heading into next season we will want to bounce back as soon as possible. I am looking forward to the start of the season, even pre-season... it’s going to be good fun.”
