Ashton Moir

Club/Recruited from: Glenelg
Position: Forward
Height: 187cm
DOB: 15 April 2005

A dual-sided threat.

Carlton has welcomed enigmatic forward Ashton Moir to the Club, selecting the Glenelg product with pick No.29 in the 2023 AFL Draft.

The versatile attacker is one of the most talented players in his draft pool, having long been on the radar of AFL clubs after bursting onto the scene as a 17-year-old.

Hitting the scoreboard for the Bays regularly in the SANFL Under-18s and Reserves competitions, Moir has also plied his trade for the South Australian representative side for the last two years as well as the AFL Academy in 2023.

Standing at 187cm, Moir has the capacity to play both tall and small, challenging opposition defenders in the air with his vertical leap as well as his trickery at ground level: Moir finished fifth in the agility test at the national combine.

A player who combines his flair with the ball along with his physicality without it, the 18-year-old will add a different dimension to Carlton’s forward mix, joining the likes of Corey Durdin and Jesse Motlop who have been welcomed to the Club in recent years through the national draft.

The evasive Moir has a distinct feature of his game, taking set shots with either his left or right foot depending on the situation: he’s got as many tricks as anyone in his draft pool, and now he’ll be aiming to hone his craft at IKON Park.

Billy Wilson

Club/Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Position: Midfielder/defender
Height: 183cm
Weight: 72kg
DOB: 16 June 2005

Billy is a Blue.

Carlton has selected Billy Wilson with pick No.34 in the 2023 AFL Draft.

The Dromana local starred for the Dandenong Stingrays in 2023, earning selection with Vic Country where he forged a reputation for his leg speed and assured disposal by foot.

Starting the year across half-back, Wilson’s stocks grew over the course of the year as he transitioned into the midfield, impressive with his explosive acceleration and his ability to not only accumulate possessions, but find teammates accordingly.

Starring for the Stingrays by winning their best-and-fairest award, Wilson went onto earn Team of the Year selection in the Coates Talent League, and his impressive 2023 only got better from there.

Featuring at the Victorian state combine, Wilson tested strongly in the 20-metre sprint (2.94 seconds), standing vertical jump (75 cm) and running vertical jump (91cm), highlighting his athletic prowess to go with his natural footballing ability.

A versatile, unique prospect, Wilson has the capacity to fill a number of roles, and will get to work with his new teammates at IKON Park having now become a Blue.

Matthew Carroll

Club/Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Position: Defender
Height: 188cm
Weight: 81kg
DOB: 28 November 2005

The perfect early 18th birthday present.

With selection No.15 in the 2023 AFL Rookie Draft, Carlton has welcomed impressive Sandringham Dragons defender Matthew Carroll to IKON Park.

A reliable defender who is noted for his attack on the ball and man with speed, the left-footed Carroll is classy and composed down back while also getting involved in offence.

A premiership player with Sandringham, Carroll also featured for Vic Metro in the national carnival, where he showcased his traits on both sides of the ball. Performing a strong lockdown role against South Australia, Carroll then released the shackles against Vic Country, ending the day as one of his team’s standout performers.

Carroll has the ability to play higher up the ground, but it was across half-back for both his state and with the Dragons that he shone, showcasing AFL attributes that saw the Blues snap him up in the rookie draft.

He can get the job done both in the air and on the ground, posing a double threat with his overhead ability as well as his dash out of defence.
