CARLTON faced Geelong at IKON Park on Sunday morning, falling by 42 points.

The Cats definitely gave it everything they had, but the Blues were not going to go down without a fight.

Hannah Scott had a standout game playing aggressively throughout the ground, tallying 26 disposals, 18 kicks and eight handballs.

Lucy Burke created an excellent start for Carlton, kicking the opening goal only three minutes in. Only moments later, Sophia McCarthy created another shot at goal, just kicking a behind.

Geelong followed up with another two goals, which led them to hit the front, 2.1 (13) to 1.1 (7) to the away side.

The Cats made the Blues work for it, being able to keep the home side scoreless in the second term, while Geelong were able to keep a strong pace, landing their targets within their forward 50.

The Blues defended for eight minutes straight in the last part of the second term, predominantly inside the Cats' forward half, but were successful in keeping them scoreless in this duration.

Lucy Burke had an unfortunate fall, which led her to miss the rest of the match and the Cats kept their lead coming into half time, 3.2 (20) to 1.1 (7).

Great connections throughout the ground led from Amy Trindade, Sophia McCarthy and Mia Fuller got the ball inboard to ruck Grace Matser in the Blues forward 50.

Matser showed off her kicking ability to secure the Blues' second goal and fought hard all day with 26 hitouts, 13 disposals and seven kicks.

Geelong were able to maintain control of the game, continuously keeping pressure on Carlton as they had 35 clearances to Carlton's 27.

The Cats kicked five goals in the third term, making it a difficult margin for the Blues to overcome, trailing by 31 points.

Carlton’s defence was overwhelming in the last term, forcing five out of six scoring shots from Geelong to lead to behinds.

The Cats were able to move the ball into their forward half but the Blues gave it their all to force errors and apply maximum pressure.

Unfortunately, their pressure wasn't enough in the end, being defeated 8.8 (56) to 2.2 (14) to the away side.
