Overall game reflection:
"We've had a strong pre-season that focused on our ball movement, and I like to think our contest and our defensive acts can stand up, but we really needed to add that layer. I thought the second quarter was probably a real highlight of how we've grown in that area, so proud.
"I think defensively our backs are really organised and even our young players back there have bought into how we want to play. We like the way we educate and our players like to put in the time to learn how we want to play, and I think Poppy Scholz was an example of that tonight. I thought she had a great night and but she's well-supported by another six backs who helped to get in the right spot, so we're big on where we need to be to defend the ground, and I thought we executed that really well tonight."
On how Tara Bohanna is making her impact on the Blues:
"She's been a really impactful player from day one when she walked into the place, she's part of our leadership group and has a major influence on how our players turn up, train, how they learn and how they prepare. To see her get the reward of that tonight, it was really pleasing and I know she wanted to have a big game back up here in Queensland and it was great to see her hit the board."
On Erone Fitzpatrick's performance after coming back from rehab:
"A real professional over the last 12 months in terms of rehab and her knee reconstruction, she's come back a brand new athlete. Early in the game, kept us in the game when Brisbane were all over us. I was really pleased for Ronnie and the output that she's able to do in games, she's a great teammate as well and her teammates love her. "
On the team's drive during the game:
"These are the games you want to be in, so against a really quality side to play well in the second, challenge in the third, what have we got now? We stand up again or are we going to roll over and kind of get beaten at the contest, and it was on there for a little while and Brisbane brought some great heat.
"Led by Abby McKay through the midfield and Breann Moody and Jess Good share the ruck role, I just thought they were terrific in there and we had enough where we could just shut the gate down late, so I'm proud of them."
On Abbie McKay's performance:
"I thought she had a huge influence. Start of the game probably the Brisbane midfielders got a hold of us and we challenged the midfield to get out there in the second and see if we could get our first possession numbers up, and Abbie led the way in that and I'm not sure what her possessions were for the game, but she had a major influence on how we played; well-captained, well-led and well-played."
On what this win means for the team:
"It's more about the reward for effort that we've put in, so we've been big over the first two years around high performance standards and ensuring that we turn into professional athletes and we don't really talk about that anymore because our girls do that automatically. Now to come up and get that reward and say hey you're doing that bit really well, keep learning the game plan, keep leaning into the education that's really important to how we play. I think it just gives them a lift that, we're on the right track and we're doing the right thing.
"A lot of games to go in the season and a great win and we'll celebrate it, but it's important we take the learnings from the second half and improve as well."
On coming back to IKON Park after two away games:
"We'll be excited to get back to IKON Park, hopefully the fans can see through the screen that we're playing an exciting brand of footy that's worth coming down to watch. So if you can get down to Ion Park next weekend, it'll be well worth a look, that's for sure."
