NO LOOKING back.
It’s been an off-season of change to date for Carlton’s AFL side, but Jacob Weitering is energised by what’s in store for his football club.
In a trade period which saw five players brought in as well as the departures of previously long-term teammates, the co-vice captain took the opportunity over the weekend to share his thoughts on where the Blues are placed.
Speaking to Channel 9, he said while there would be a new feel to the football club upon pre-season’s resumption in November, that’s something to be welcomed and excited by.
“It’s certainly going to be a fresh start,” Weitering said.
“We’ve been on this journey with ‘Vossy’ and the team for four years - we made a prelim, two finals series but things didn’t go our way this year, for many different reasons.
“I think the people we’ve got in now are extremely motivated to do a job for this club. And as long as we do the right things as players in the off-season and have a great pre-season, I think the fans have a lot to look forward to.”
There will naturally be changes across every line for the Blues next season, with Weitering not just focussing on the acquisitions, but a host of other teammates who he’s looking forward to seeing.
For Weitering, the likes of Harry McKay, Marc Pittonet and Nic Newman plus an emerging core of younger players who broke through in 2025 can have just as big of an impact as the new names for 2026.
“It gives an opportunity for guys to step up… it gives me a lot of energy knowing we’ve got guys that can perform for us.
“I wish [the departing players] all the best, but we’ve got to move forward as a football club.
“I’m still here, ‘Crippa’ is still here and the leaders will do their absolute best to push this club forward to success. I’m looking forward to what’s in store for us.”
