CARLTON superstar Darcy Vescio is itching to get back into the navy blue when she makes her VFLW season debut and is set for a more prominent role up the field.

Darcy Vescio is set to make her return to the field this weekend for Carlton.

The Blues superstar has been itching to pull the boots on after being held out of the first half of the VFLW season due to her AFLW commitments.

Vescio, Katie Loynes and Alison Downie are all set to bolster the Blues ahead of the clash against Melbourne University.

Vescio hopes a move into the midfield will add another string to her bow ahead of the 2020 AFLW season.

“Hopefully, I can get up the field a bit more, get more experience delivering (the ball) inside 50 but also playing with more freedom,” she said.

“It’s almost a refreshing patch of football where you get to play and enjoy it.

“I haven’t really played proper midfield but I’m definitely interested in becoming more involved and using my field kicking a bit more.

“I still see that as an option for me, it’s good to add a few layers to your game as the standard increases.”

The Blues star was spent more time up the field in the AFLW this season, seeing her disposals rise from 7.1 to nine and goals per game drop from two per game to 0.6.

Carlton reached a maiden AFLW grand final this year but the VFLW team has claimed just two win and a draw.

The Blues got the better of Williamstown for the second time this season on Saturday, winning by 33 points at Princes Park.

Vescio admits it’s been hard to watch from the sidelines.

“It’s been a frustrating season for the girls because they’ve had so many close losses,” she said.

“There’s not much separating us from having five or six wins, compared to one.”

However, the star forward remains positive about the future at Carlton, inking a two-year deal last season.

Vescio has played every AFLW game in its three years and was looking forward to going one step better in 2020.

“I signed for two more years at the end of last season, which is really exciting,” she said.

“It’s the first year they brought in two-year contracts, so it’s good to be able to look long-term.

“I feel like there’s a lot of belief … it will be exciting to see how we go in the upcoming season.”
