A BREAKOUT year.

Third-year Blue Sam Petrevski-Seton has well and truly established himself as an integral player at Carlton.

The midfielder has added more strings to his bow in 2019, playing every game this year across a number of roles.

Speaking to Carlton Media, the young Blue reflected on a season which he described as a “standout”.

“My 2019 season was pretty much the standout of my career so far,” Petrevksi-Seton said.

“Not only to play 22 games, but the ability to have a full pre-season under my belt kind of set me up to have a really good year.

“It’s been really good – a lot of learning and a lot of growth, but I’m very excited for the years to come.”

Having played as a midfielder for the majority of his career to date, the final rounds of the 2019 season presented the 21-year-old with the chance to show his credentials in defence.

Back-line injuries presented opportunities, as Petrevski-Seton assumed a role off half-back towards the tail end of the year.

“What I found the most different this year was just the ability to get thrown around and to play multiple roles and multiple positions,” he said.

“If I’m having a bad week or one game, I can get thrown around to a different position and try and allow myself to get back into the game.”

Petrevski-Seton forms part of a contingent of up-and-coming Blues, with the likes of Sam Walsh and Will Setterfield contributing their growth to the list.

Inspired by the Blues’ young talent, Petrevski-Seton is eager to continue improving alongside his teammates.

“Obviously Sam Walsh and Will Setterfield having their first year at the Club is outstanding for them,” he said.

“The energy that they bring in and around the Club, but also on game day when they are able to play to their strengths and play some good footy, was very exciting to see.”

Finishing the season on a high, the Bluebaggers were out in force as the Carlton secured six of its seven wins in the second half of the year.

But for Petrevski-Seton, it was the 85,000 that turned out for the Round 1 clash with Richmond that stands out.

“Our Bluebaggers come to every game, I think the biggest was Round 1,” he said.

“85,000 against Richmond, you know for them to come out to the MCG, but even they were consistent throughout the year as well.”
