IT’S 150 games for a beloved Blue.
Carlton co-vice captain Sam Walsh will achieve another milestone in Navy Blue this Saturday night when he runs out for his 150th game.
Becoming the 84th player to reach the milestone in VFL/AFL history for the Blues, Walsh has made a lasting impression ever since walking through the doors of IKON Park as the No.1 draft pick at the end of 2018.
Earning the ultimate respect from his teammates and opponents alike, Walsh’s impact was immediate, becoming Carlton’s first AFL Rising Star winner after an excellent first season.
Playing his first 61 games without interruption, Walsh won the AFL Mark of the Year in 2020 while becoming one of the Blues’ youngest ever John Nicholls Medallists in 2021, in a year where he also was named as an All Australian.
His appetite for the big stage was demonstrated in the Blues’ memorable 2023 finals series, winning the Gary Ayres Medal as the standout player of that September.
A long-term leader of Carlton, having been named co-vice captain alongside Jacob Weitering under Patrick Cripps in 2022, Walsh’s commitment to the Navy Blue was demonstrated when he signed an eight-year contract extension, tying his future to the Blues until the end of 2034.
With a bumper crowd already expected for Saturday night, there’ll be an added reason for Carlton fans to be in full voice when Walsh runs out into the No.18 jumper for the 150th time.
