The Carlton Football Club has confirmed midfielder Maddy Guerin will miss the upcoming AFLW season after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament.

The injury occurred during training this week, with subsequent scans confirming the extent of the injury.

The 26-year-old was coming off a career-high 13 games last season, having earned her place in the Blues’ midfield.

Head of AFLW Eleni Valos said the entire Club would be behind Guerin throughout her recovery.

"We're obviously very disappointed for Maddy, who is a much-loved teammate at Carlton,” Valos said.

“Whilst it’s extremely tough for her right now, Maddy is an outstanding person and the ultimate professional, who has shown a great level of resilience throughout her AFLW career.

“Our entire program will wrap their arms around Maddy to support her through what is a difficult period, making sure she has all the support she needs throughout her rehabilitation."
