Carlton's VFLW midfielder Teresa Cassar has been in love with footy since she the age of six.

Despite her love of the game at a young age, Cassar was not to play on after her 13th birthday, with a lack of pathways for young girls haulting her dreams of playing football. For 10-years, Cassar didn't pick up a footy. However, after losing her father unexpectedly, she was inspired to rediscover her love for footy.

Upon her return to footy, Cassar was involved in two premierships over four seasons with Deer Park with one premiership sticks out to her.

“I lost my father to a heart attack who inspired that spark and that passion to get back into footy,” she said.

“In 2016, I was actually fortunate enough to play with Shannon McFerran in that Grand Final so I’ve been really lucky to have a few mentors along my path,” Cassar said.

After experiencing success at Deer Park, Cassar made the difficult decision to move to a brand new club, West Preston Lakeside, last year. She believes this move helped graduation to Carlton’s VFLW side.

“The club and the girls really helped me to develop as a player,” Cassar said.

“Being backed by a club that really supports women’s footy helped me make the journey to VFLW.”

Now, at Carlton, Cassar is focused on making a smooth transition from the midfield to the forward line.

“I’ve spent a lot of time through the midfield and I’d really like to focus on my forward craft which Carlton currently has me doing,” she said.

“I think I can add a bit of value there and be a little bit of a rocket in the forward line. But mostly, I just want to enjoy my footy and take on all the learning curves that Carlton has to offer.”

The Blues will look to build on last week's strong performance against the NT Thunder, and register their first win of the season in front of a home crowd at Ikon Park.

Bluebaggers are in for a massive day of footbally, with the tripleheader of the VFLW, VFL and AFL all taking place on Saturday. Fans will be able to tune in from wherever they are with a livestream available of both games from Ikon Park.
