THE Carlton Football Club is delighted to announce the re-signing of 21 players for the 2020 AFLW season and beyond.
Today’s announcement sees 18 of the 21 players who appeared in the club’s historic maiden AFLW grand final appearance last month commit to remain in navy blue.
The re-signings include NAB AFLW Rising Star and Carlton Best and Fairest winner Madison Prespakis as well as foundation players Gabriella Pound, Darcy Vescio, Jess Hosking, Sarah Hosking, Katie Loynes, Natalie Plane, Lauren Brazzale and Breann Moody.
All Australian defenders Kerryn Harrington, high flying forward Tayla Harris, AFLW first ever father daughter selection Abbie McKay, Nicola Stevens and Georgia Gee have all re-committed for a further two seasons while Alison Downie, Jayde Van Dyk, Jess Edwards and Rugby Sevens coverts Chloe Dalton and Brooke Walker have signed on for the 2020 season.
Charlotte Wilson and Emerson Woods have also inked one season deals after debuting in 2019.
The commitment from the 21 players is an overwhelming show of belief from the playing group and clear confidence in the direction the club is heading, after a breakout season in AFLW 3.0.
Carlton Coach Daniel Harford was thrilled to see the re-signings as the squad builds towards another exciting season next year.
“It’s great to re-sign 21 players from last season’s squad, they are all extremely important players to the Carlton Football Club,” Harford said.
“All 21 are great players but most importantly they are great people and that’s what makes coaching this group so enjoyable and rewarding.
“I’m really excited about their desire to stick together as a group and wanting to build something sustained and special in navy blue.”
Carlton will continue to look to re-sign players from its current 2019 playing list while strengthening its squad for next season.
