DARCY Vescio has attributed Carlton’s outstanding performance on Friday night to their Senior Coach, Daniel Harford.

Carlton went three from three in season openers at Ikon Park, accounting for Richmond on Friday night.

Vescio admitted to Triple M that she was not sure what to expect from ‘Harf’ when he over 18 months ago, but he has proven to be a real "people person" among the group.

“I think he’s got a really nice temperament: it's one you want to work really hard for and someone you just want to put in that all the effort for,” Vescio said.

“He’s just got a really unique way of bringing the girls together before a game and calming the nerves as well.”

The Blues thwarted a brand-new Richmond outfit by 34 points with over 15,000 people in attendance.

It was the third time in four seasons that the AFLW season opener has been played at Ikon Park, with Vescio detailing the experience as a stand-out of the season.

“I get pretty pumped up before a game so I was pretty excited,” she said.

“I love playing at home and we’re pretty lucky to get the season opener: we’ve had it for a couple of years, it’s always awesome.”

Carlton was the first to play the Richmond AFLW team, but quickly discovered how the Tigers tick.

“I guess there was a lot of unknown heading into [Friday] night so it was good to just take it all in,” she said

“I felt as though we were pretty dominant from the start of the game but weren't really converting.

“It was good to be able to come out in the third and convert and get a bit of a lead heading into the fourth.”
