The Carlton Football Club has confirmed the new coaching structure to be implemented in 2013 has made the Assistant Coaching position held by Mark Riley redundant.

“We have spoken to Mark in relation to the new coaching structure and the changing roles going forward and as a result of his position being made redundant Mark has been in discussions with other AFL clubs regarding his future,” said Carlton General Manager Football Operations Andrew McKay.

Riley has been an Assistant Coach with Carlton for five years, working closely with former Senior Coach Brett Ratten since 2008 and in 2012 his role was transition coach. A premiership coach in the WAFL, he has experience in a development coaching role at Fremantle and was an Assistant Coach at Melbourne before taking over as Senior Coach for the last nine games of the 2007 season.

“Mark has tremendous experience through his time in football and we certainly appreciate the contributions he has made to the Carlton Football Club over the last five years and we wish him and his family the very best for the future,” added McKay.
