Carlton coach Mick Malthouse has implored fans not to give up on the Blues this season.

The call comes after Carlton went down to Brisbane at the Gabba on the weekend.

In his weekly message to members Malthouse conceded that while the season is far from over, his side’s performance on the weekend wasn’t good enough.

“It’s a testing time, we hope that you are all on board, please stick [by us] and we will do everything we possibly can,” Malthouse told Carlton members.

“We had an opportunity to draw level with our wins and losses and unfortunately over a period of this year and last year, when we were expected to be better, we haven’t been.

“We can’t look for any excuses and that’s not going to be the case.”

The Blues opened the scoring with two majors early in the final term to open up a 16-point lead, before the Lions stormed home to kick the last four goals of the match.

Malthouse expressed his disappointment at the performance and said the whole side must take responsibility.

“When we kicked those first two goals in the last quarter, I knew and I’m pretty sure the boys knew, that the job wasn’t done,” Malthouse said.

“Any time you allow that at a home ground you automatically have this surge of emotion going through the opposition and you have got to stop it.

“We allowed them to score goals at will and paid a massive penalty.”

The Blues next face Geelong on Friday night at Etihad Stadium, after the Cats were dismantled by a rampant Sydney last Thursday.
