DAVID Teague believes the younger side of the Carlton list are starting off the pre-season on the right foot.

With the first-to-fourth-year players returning to Ikon Park, including the new draftees arriving on Monday, Teague has been impressed with the form they have brought with them off their break.

“They’ve turned up really well,” Teague said.

“They’ve done the program we gave them while they’ve been away so we’ve been able to progress our training.”

A few familiar faces have joined in on the training sessions, with the likes of Ed Curnow, Liam Jones and Mitch McGovern hitting the track to get a jump on their training.

Teague noted that the sense of community and group effort has shown him that they are on the right track, especially with the older players coming in to help guide the younger ones.

“They’ve been really good across the program, they haven’t been to every session but most of them are turning up and I just think it shows where they’re at,” he said.

“It shows their care, and to get better, you need to work hard and our guys have come back in really good condition and they’re out there training.

“I’m really pleased at the way the players have approached it.”

2020 draftees Corey Durdin, Jack Carroll and Luke Parks also had their first training session at Ikon Park today, with Teague noting the absence of any visible nerves.

“They said they were nervous but their skills and the way they trained, they looked good and all had smiles on their faces which you expect,” he said.

“I think you always remember your first day at an AFL footy club, it’s a special memory and hopefully we made that enjoyable for them.”
