OVERVIEW

Darcy Vescio had arguably her best season since the AFLW's inception in 2017.

Not only did Vescio finish the league’s Leading Goal-Kicker, breaking the record for most goals kicked in an AFLW season, she also took home Carlton’s Best and Fairest award and solidified her spot as one of Carlton’s most influential players.

Kicking 16 goals for the season took Vescio’s total goals kicked in her career to 44, a feat that has never been reached before, seeing her secure her second All-Australian selection.

As well as being dangerous around the goals, Vescio provided leadership and forward pressure in the front half of the ground, alongside Nic Stevens, the two experienced players lit up the forward 50.

BEST PERFORMANCE

Vescio’s best performance came against the Suns in Round 8, where she gathered 15 disposals and slotted five goals.

The five-goal performance saw Vescio break three records: first player to reach 40 career goals as well as the highest score ever recorded for both Blues and in the overall competition.

Vescio also took nine marks that afternoon, one of those a screamer in the goal square in the fourth quarter that saw her slot her fifth goal of the day.

The Blues stormed home with a 60-point victory over the Suns, Vescio at the forefront of the win and treating Bluebaggers to one of her best performances to date.

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

Best and fairest winner, All-Australian selection, leading goal-kicker for the league and her side: it’s hard to pick a season highlight for Vescio in 2021.

Vescio will be shopping for a new trophy case after 2021, collecting nearly every award that she could in her fifth season for Carlton.

It will be a season to remember and a performance hard to top for Vescio in 2022, but something tells us she’ll find a way to keep things entertaining.
