The Carlton Football Club is today pleased to confirm the appointment of Brett Munro as its General Manager of Women’s Football.
Munro had taken over the role on an interim basis from Round 3 of this year’s AFLW season, doing so with passion, professionalism and dedication.
With over 21 years of experience in the football industry at the elite level, Munro will continue to drive the high standards of the Game Changers both on and off the field.
His Carlton connection runs deep, having started his football journey at IKON Park back in 2000.
Munro spent 12 years at the Blues during his original stint, as an opposition analyst and coach, before moving north as an opposition coach at the Gold Coast Suns from 2011–2018 and later completing roles with the AFL as Umpiring and Game Analysis Lead.
“Our AFLW program is in a strong position right now off the back of the hard work of a lot of good people, on and off the field, and it is a privilege to now have the opportunity to help take that to the next level,” Munro said.
“With our new facilities taking shape, our AFLW players are experiencing the same, state-of-the-art training environment as the men. This perfectly aligns with our philosophy of having both our programs working alongside one another to bring the ultimate success to the Carlton Football Club.
“Our preparations for the 2022 season are well underway and we aim to give our members and supporters plenty to be excited about next year.”
Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd said Munro’s performance in the role this season made the decision to make the appointment permanent an easy one.
“To see Brett step into the role of GM of Women’s Football in the middle of a season and take every challenge and responsibility in his stride is a real testament to him,” Lloyd said.
“Brett has a tremendous passion and commitment for the women’s game and has built great relationships throughout the football department, playing and coaching groups since returning to the Club at the start of last year.
“To have someone with over two decades of experience at the elite level steering our women’s program is terrific and Brett will be able to utilise that to really help drive our strategic direction which we aim to lead to sustained high-performance on and off the field.”
