CARLTON is hopeful that Michael Gibbons and Marc Pittonet will be available before the end of the season.

It was announced last week that Gibbons and Pittonet would be sidelined for the medium term due to respective hamstring and ankle injuries.

Speaking to Carlton Media, Director of High Performance Andrew Russell said the duo would be given every chance to return to play before the season was out.

Pittonet underwent successful surgery on his ankle, while Gibbons sustained a "significant" hamstring injury last Thursday at training.

"'Pitto's' surgery went really well. He's had some bone removed and we will do everything we can to get him back to play later on in the year," Russell said.

"Michael Gibbons unfortunately injured his hamstring in training on Thursday: it's quite a significant hamstring. We'll do our best to get him up and running at the end of the season."

With Pittonet's ankle injury 'very similar' to the one which sidelined Zac Fisher, Russell said that the exciting forward was a test for selection this weekend.

After missing the weekend's win over Adelaide, Fisher will be a test later in the week.

However, Will Setterfield will be unavailable for selection, with the midfielder needing an extra week to recover from a fractured metacarpal in his hand.

Meanwhile, Jordan Boyd sustained a lateral ligament knee injury in the VFL on the weekend, with a timeline for recovery to be determined in the coming days.
