COOL, calm, classy and composed.

That’s what the Game Changers have added in the form of Annie Lee, who Carlton has welcomed with pick No.10 in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft.

Named across half back in the 2021 NAB AFLW Under-19 All-Australian team, Lee - a Geelong Falcon - is a defender who backs herself in the air with her reading of the play a clear standout.

Adding to a Carlton defensive mix containing the likes of Kerryn Harrington and Charlotte Wilson, Lee can lock down on her direct opponent while also supplying some drive and rebound from the back half.

Born in Warrnambool then growing up in Scotland before returning to Victoria eight years ago, it’s been a road well travelled for Lee, whose football journey has just taken another significant step.

Spoken like a true defender, Lee told womens.afl that it’s the negating side of the game which she prides herself on: “I love running down a player if they’re going for goal… the adrenaline rushes through you and it’s an incredible feeling”.

That adrenaline rush would have reached a new level when the Blues called out her name and player number on the night of the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

“Annie is such a classy, natural footballer and we’re thrilled to have her at our football club for the 2021/22 season and beyond,” GM of Women’s Football Brett Munro said.

“She uses the ball well out of defensive 50 and reads the play better than most in the back half. She does a lot of things well and we think joining our program will only add to that.

“We think she’ll thrive playing alongside someone like ‘Kez’ with our defenders and we certainly see her making an impact at our football club for a long, long time.”
