A NEW wave.

Brodie Kemp and Jesse Motlop have been named in the squad for the AFLPA’s 22under22 in 2023.

With the squad of 44 to be trimmed to the final team on 23 August, fans can vote on the competition’s best emerging talent, with voting open from today.

The 22under22 concept was initiated 10 years ago, with 12 Carlton players across the AFL and AFLW teams combining for 23 nominations over that time period.

Kemp and Motlop will look to make it Nos.24 and 25 on the back of memorable seasons in Navy Blue.

Drafted with the Blues’ opening selection of the 2019 AFL Draft, Kemp’s 2023 season has undoubtedly been his breakout campaign, earning his chance and slotting in seamlessly next to Jacob Weitering.

Averaging just shy of three intercept marks per game, Kemp has arguably been Carlton’s most improved player in 2023, playing 12 games so far this season — including the last 10 in a row.

At the other end of the ground, Motlop has also been an embodiment of the Blues’ recent improvement, with the second-year Blue already having 28 games under his belt after he was the team’s only selection in the 2021 national draft.

With 10 goals in the last four weeks, Motlop’s zip and flare in front of the big sticks has been there for the entire competition to see in 2023: on the weekend, he became the third Blue for the season to hit 20 goals for the season.
